Fauci’s Fatal Folly

Anthony Fauci used your tax money for reckless research that led to millions of deaths. President Trump wants to make sure that never happens again. The president signed an executive order banning U.S. funding of gain-of-function (GOF) research in countries with insufficient oversight.

In 2014, Barack Obama imposed a three-year ban on GOF research. That research involves scientists manipulating a virus in a laboratory to make it more deadly just to see what it might do through natural mutations. But there is always a chance that this dangerous new virus might escape from the lab.

Obama’s ban is why Anthony Fauci outsourced his GOF research to a communist Chinese lab in Wuhan, which was known for its poor safety record. There’s no cure for stupid.

There have also been disturbing reports that Wuhan wasn’t the only location where such dangerous research was conducted. The U.S. government has acknowledged investing in laboratories in Ukraine. Concern about these labs has been dismissed as “misinformation” or “Russian propaganda.”

Well, five years ago, we were told that the idea COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab was a nutty conspiracy theory. Now, it is the consensus view of intelligence agencies worldwide. (Here, here, and here.) Even the New York Times finally had to admit that “we were badly misled” about COVID-19.

God bless President Trump for taking this important action. But no one should be deluded into thinking that powerful forces won’t try to get around this order, just as Fauci got around Obama’s order.

Anyone at any of our three-letter agencies who ignores or works around Trump’s order should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In the meantime, Anthony Fauci should be hauled into a courtroom dock, put under oath, and forced to start answering questions.
